WordPress Manual Installation

WordPress Manual Installation gives you more options to configure your site with better security optimization. On the other hand, WordPress Dynamic installation left some loophole at backend for attackers to harm your website. So to be in safe side and close the backend loophole for attackers it is always a wise decision to install wordpress manually.

Here is a complete guide to install wordpress manually with tightening security:

Files and Folders you need to configure:

  1. WordPress Installation files and Folder,
  2. MySQL database user name, MySQL database password and MySQL database hostname,
  3. WordPress Authentication Unique Keys and Salts,
  4. Custom WordPress Database Table prefix,

WordPress Installation files and Folders:

Download the latest version of wordpress from www.wordpress.org. Unzip the folder and rename the file from “wp-config-sample.php” to “wp-config.php”.

MySQL database user name, MySQL database password and MySQL database hostname:

From MySQL or PHPmyAdmin get the database name, user name, password and hostname. It looks like:

  1. $mysql_database = “databasename”;
  2. $mysql_user = “username”;
  3. $mysql_password = “password”;
  4. $mysql_host = “hostname”;

If you don’t have any database yet and don’t know how create it, check this reference guide at Godaddy or 000webhost tutorials.

Now Open “wp-config.php” file from wordpress folder and replace the XXXXX with your MySQL Database information.

WordPress Authentication Unique Keys and Salts:

WordPress Authentication Unique Keys and Salts will force all users to have to log in again and it will invalidate all existing cookies.

To get Authentication Unique Keys and Salts, please visit https://api.wordpress.org/secret-key/1.1/salt/ .

Copy everything and replace it to wp-config.php file at marked area.

Custom WordPress Database Table prefix:

By default wordpress use ‘wp_’ for Database Table prefix. To change it and use your own custom database table prefix add numbers, letters, and underscores with default ‘wp_’ prefix in wp-config.php file. Such as

  • ‘wp_bn111_’
  • ‘wp_cn222_’
  • ‘wp_dn333_’

Now it is time to upload the wordpress folder to public server and install wordpress.

Uploading wordpress folder to public server

To upload wordpress folders and files I am going to use FileZilla (File Transfer Protocol) software. If you have no idea on how to use FileZilla software, please read this reference guide on how to use FileZilla.

WordPress Installation:

After uploading the wordpress folders and files, now visit http://yourdomainname.com/wp-admin/install.php (Change the “yourdomainname” with real domain name). It will show you the WordPress Installation Page.

Follow the instructions and complete the installation process. Within minute you will be able to login to your fresh new installed WordPress site.
